Shopping List

One more piece! :D

If anyone feels like making me a present, I'm looking for:
  • Triumph Earring x1
  • Neptune's Staff
  • Pluto's Staff
  • A Few PUP Attachments
  • 30 or so Ancient Beastcoins
  • Ethereal Earring
  • Diabolos' Earring
  • Homam Manapolas :(
That's about everything. Anything else is entangled in some sort of quest (like -1 pieces and whatnot).

Good luck!

I have to admit I'm new to your blog posts, but besides the layout being so...blue and dark and clean, I'm impressed by your collective knowledge and superior commonsense to other Blue Mages.

I've taken a break from the game, which was more a self-induced coma of 3 years, and I recently found myself drawn back to it, but with a new character. One that is sky and Sea-less.

Im making my first 75 on the character a Blu, but my question is how much am I gimping myself for not having sky and sea unlocked when I finally hit 75?

Hi, Joe :)

Well, I was a 75BLU for a good 8 months without my Sea spells. I'm not going to lie--lacking Disseverment, Actinic Burst and Temporal Shift will tip the odds against your favor. That being said, those spells, as well as the Homam armor set, are useful primarily for the "Big three" spells and for casual DDing/tanking; Cannonball and Heat Breath thankfully require no sea access, neither to obtain nor gear.

While some people may knock you for lacking the sea spells, you are fully equipped to handle the endgame builds which are arguably more useful than the DD build for most events anyway. Lacking Disseverment is a shame because it is one of the few, powerful piercing-type spells BLU gets, but access to Frenetic Rip and Hysteric Barrage are helpful in lieu of having a MNK in party. This is especially true in events with Undead such as Einherjar or Assault.

You may feel a bit behind in merit parties, assault or Dynamis, but you can hold your own in Sky, Dynamis (Xarcabard, Dreamlands), ZNM, Einherjar, and any other event with IT+, as long as you know how to play the job. ;)

So gear up for Cannonball and Heat Breath while going through CoP missions. Got it.

Again, thank you for the helpful advice. I'll keep on reading your blogs and piece together the information needed to correctly play Blu.

Happy Hunting!

Well, for events against VT or lower, gear as you would any DD--Acc, Haste, STR, ATK etc. Hysteric Barrage and Frenetic Rip are still quite potent, and Head Butt is always a 6-7 second Stun, so you can hold your own decently for stuff like assault or merit parties.

For tougher events, like Sky or ZNM (anything involving boss-type mobs), focus on Cannonball (because it's cheaper and easier to use). Heat Breath is a good gearset to have, but it's more expensive and more difficult to make effective.

In addition to /NIN, definitely have /THF available. If you're feeling ambitious, level /MNK for breaths.

The only missions that are not very welcoming of BLUs in CoP are Ouryu and the Mithras. Every other mission, BLU holds its own as a DD and back up healer and, above all else, an epic stunner.
