Concordia: An Analysis

[1] Sword Weaponskills: Attack +14
[2] Sword Weaponskills: Critical Hit Rate +1-6%
[3] Darkness/Water/Fire-elemental Blue Magic: Magic Accuracy +3
                      OR
     Blue Magic: Physical Attack
+3-6

Damage Per Second: 10.3
TP Per Hit: 7.1%

Analysis: First of all, it should be noted this is the highest DMG weapon a Blue Mage can use. Of course, higher DMG is always a plus, but at what cost?

Active while TP < 100% (includes Weapon Skills): Attack +15, Accuracy +5

Damage Per Second: 10.13 / 11.73
TP Per Hit: 6.0%

So we see we lose 2 DMG and the lovely critical hit rate (only on weapon skills), and the aforementioned, and apparently highly situational, Blue Magic effects. As you can see, below 100% TP, Perdu offers both the attack/accuracy bonus to melee strikes as well as 1.4 additional DPS. At worst, Perdu offers about the same DPS as Concordia when above 100% TP.

As for the Blue Magic effects, I did not even bother including certain effects like Magic Attack Bonus because you would have to be daft to be a devoted caster without an appropriate elemental staff. 3-4 MAB will never hold a candle to +15% Attack/Accuracy. As for these other effects, which appear to be of some use, you need to decide which element to enhance, which pidgeonholes the use of this sword even further. I rather like Dark-elemental accuracy since MP Drainkiss is one of the only spells I'd cast without a staff, but still worry about its accuracy. You might want a Light-elemental evolith for Sheep Song/Yawn, but seriously, meh.

Now, the one tantalizing evolith I see is "Blue Magic: Physical Attack." It's like a stat we've never seen before, and at present, I have no idea how much 3-6 "Blue Magic Attack" is worth in terms of STR/DEX. For all I know, it could be a suped up Koggelmander. It does appear, however, that the higher level evoliths for this effect are too large for Concordia's slot, which means, likely, that a +3 bonus is about as good as you can get. It still does more for Blue Magic (bar the accuracy reduction) than Perdu, but the question remains: "Is it worth the effort?"

Step 1: Obtaining the Materials

All three materials are dropped by the new Fomor HNMs in the past, which creates serious complications for the Blue Mage without a reliable Endgame LS. That and as far as I know, most HNM LS don't even touch these guys, and the drops are all ex, so good luck. :\

Step 2: Crafting Concordia
Synergy (Apprentice), Smithing (Veteran), Goldsmithing (Artisan)

In addition to making buddies with crafters with the above skills, you also need to pray you don't break anything (which means you have to have some knowledge about Synergy).

Step 3: Etching Concordia
I have no idea how this works, but it has something to do with 'fewell' and impurities or some such nonsense. Sounds complicated.

Step 4: Obtaining the Evoliths
Sword Weaponskill: Attack: Frostmane
Not too tough--probably a moderately easy solo for a good Blue Mage.

Sword Weaponskill: Critical Hit Rate: Firedance Magmaal Ja
If a RDM can solo it, a BLU should be able to, in theory, as well. If not, a BLU and RDM duo can.

Blue Magic: Physical Attack +1-6: Autarch/Eurymedon
Also soloable by a BLU, but it seems to take a good while. I include Eurymedon because the size of Autarch's evolith is unclear and may not even fit on Concordia.

Step 5: Attaching the Evoliths
Again, I don't really get this part.

So after, what, a few weeks, you get some neato buffs to your Sword Weaponskills (woo-hoo >.>) and +1-6 Blue Magic: Physical Attack (whatever that is). All in all, while I'm sure this sword is very cool (definitely a great conversation piece), I don't see it being worth so much trouble.

Now, on certain slots of equipment, the effects could be very impressive, but I'm extremely turned off by the elemental affinity thing. I don't want a whole set of elemental gears in addition to stat-based gears, regardless of what my "go-to" Magical Blue Magic spells are; you would have to kill me to invest in separate gear sets for Firespit and Regurgitation. That and it's still unclear whether +3-6 "Blue Magic Attack" would be better than say +4 STR/DEX and some accuracy.

Let's see if any new, impressive evoliths pop up.

I know this much about Synergy: If the sword is crafted using Synergy (and not done with crystal synthesis) then it's impossible to break and lose all the materials. It's how people are powerleveling their synergy to absurd levels using Orange Juice Synergy synths.
